Panchayat Raj Minister Botcha Satyanarayana on Wednesday launched ‘Drushti’, a programme under which the eye sight problems faced by students of government schools and inmates of residential welfare hostels, will be rectified, at the social welfare hostel in Tuni.
On the occasion, Mr. Satyanarayana said vision impairment reduced the concentration levels among children.
About 40,000 inmates of 360 welfare hostels would be tested for poor eye sight and provided necessary treatment in the initial stages starting with students of 10th class.
Children in need of treatment would be referred to the nearest primary health centres and community health centres. Vitamin supplements and spectacles would be distributed to the children free of cost.
Screening
The screenings would be done till March 20.
Minister Pilli Subhaschandra Bose and P Viswaroop, Zilla Parishad chairman Ch Venugopala Krishna, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi, Additional Joint Collector B. Rama Rao, MLAs Raja Ashok Babu (Tuni) and T.V. Narasimham (Jaggampeta), Tuni Municipal chairperson K. Sobha Rani and others were present.
