Chief Minister K.Rosaiah has directed the officials of Labour & Employment to formulate new and unique welfare schemes for the welfare of the building and construction workers in the State.
He was reviewing the activities of the A.P.Building & Other construction workers Welfare Board and senior officials of Labour & Employment here today.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to take steps for the coverage of ‘Aarogya Sri’ programme to the families of construction workers even in such cases where they were not covered under the package of the scheme. He has directed them to ensure that all the children of construction workers should be covered under scholarship scheme.
The Chief Minister also launched the website of Overseas Manpower Company AP Ltd. The website address is: http://omc.ap.gov.in
Briefing the Chief Minister, the officials said that the registration of construction workers in the state commenced from 15th August 2009 and distribution of I.D.cards started from 2nd October 2009. So far around 7 lakh workers have been registered and it is targeted to cover around 20 lakh workers. A sum of Rs.2 lakhs is being paid as accidental insurance in case of death or total permanent disability. Rs.1 lakh for 50% and above partial permanent disability, Rs.50,000 for 26% to 49% partial permanent disability and Rs.25,000 for 1% to 25% partial permanent disability is being paid to the victims. In case of natural death a sum of Rs.30,000 will be paid and a sum of Rs.5,000 will be paid as maternity assistance to the women workers limited to two confinements. The Board has collected Rs.285 crores as 1% cess from the construction agencies as on 31.10.09.
